Interesting data that can help determine the popularity of the Korean idols in Japan has been revealed.
Search engine Yahoo, Japan released the ’2011 Keyword Ranking’ on December 1st.
SNSD took the 3rd spot bested only by girl group AKB48 and boy group Arashi who boast top popularity in Japan currently. Kara took the 5th spot.
SNSD climbed 10 spots compared to last year’s 13th spot. Kara climbed up 27 spots amazingly, landing on the 5th spot this year. The results show that the level of interest of the Japanese public on the groups is high.
TVXQ ranked 9th and Jang Geun Suk ranked 10th, resulting in 4 Hallyu star teams taking 4 out of the 10 top spots.
As far as the searches in foreign languages are concerned, SNSD and Kara ranked 1st and 2nd.
SNSD have released single album ‘Mr. Taxi’ and 1st full album ‘Girls’ Generation’ with much attention. Kara released their 2nd full Japanese album ‘Super Girl’ topping the Oricon weekly chart.

Kpop is so crazy hot in Japan. Just few years ago Japanese people didn’t care for kpop but only k drama. It’s incredible how much it has grown in such a short time.

Lately it looks like Kara surely have surpassed SNSD in terms of popularity, but overall year I guess SNSD were at people’s mind a little more.

ABK48 with 48 members I’m sure would take number one. Arashi has always been popular. SNSD 9 vs Kara 5, it’s a virtual tie in terms of real popularity.
