2NE1 and SNSD had a fantastic year 2011 and the two groups are being recognized for their achievements not only nationally, but internationally of late. One of America‘s most influential music magazine ‘SPIN’ has included both groups’ album in the top 20 album category.
According to the chart, 2NE1′s 2nd mini album came in at #6, standing shoulder to shoulder with the worlds mega pop stars. 2NE1 has outranked Coldplay, Rihanna, and Kelly Clarkson.
The #1 spot was taken by Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’, Beyonce came in at 2nd with her album ’4′, and Britney Spears’ ‘Femme Fatal’ finished at 3rd. 2NE1 is the only Asian group to be included in the star studded top 10.
This isn’t the first international accolade received by 2NE1 this year, they were awarded the ‘MTV Iggy’s Best New Band’ award and they’ve also been extensively covered by the BBC. Recently another famous U.S. music magazine, ‘SLANT’ had ranked 2NE1′s ‘I Am The Best’ in the best single top 25 category as well.
SNSD came in at #18 with their album, ‘The Boys’. It is an impressive feat considering the girls did not have a proper U.S. promotion in the year 2011. SNSD is becoming recognized not only for the popularity in Asia, but for their brand of music as well.
With the two groups garnering lots international attention, 2012 looks to be an exciting year for the fans of the groups in the Western world. 2NE1 is preparing a U.S. debut album with will.i.am and this is only the beginning for the girls.
SNSD on the other hand does not have any specific plans for the U.S. market. They plan to finish out the year with the promotion of their new song ‘Mr. Taxi’ in Korea. SNSD will be attending several end of the year special music programs both in Japan and in Korea.
